Participating in the Cape Town 2010 Congress

In conversations about Cape Town 2010 (CT2010), people often ask the following questions: “Who will attend the Congress?” and “What is the process for being selected to attend?”

Who will attend?

Imagine people whom God chooses convening to make courageous decisions about important spiritual issues that will impact the global Church for decades to come.  Imagine the ripple effect that will extend around the world as these people return to their homes commissioned anew with the Gospel’s potential under the Spirit’s direction.  This is indeed the dream for CT2010.

Therefore, a priority challenge is to identify and select 4000 men and women who will reflect the composition of the evangelical church within their respective countries and offer a microcosm of the global evangelical church.  Based on thorough research, specific allotments have been set to select participants from nearly 200 countries.  Approximately 65% of the participants will come from the majority world.  Leaders of mission, the church, academics and the marketplace will be among those selected.  Significant attention is being given to include ethnic minorities and the “Diaspora” in various countries.

Specific targets for selection are as follows:
Under 50 years old – 60%
Women – 35%
Laity – 10% (minimum)

What is the process for being selected to attend?

The selection process is guided by local and regional leaders.  Therefore close interaction with local/regional leaders is crucial.

As a candidate thinks about involvement in CT2010, it’s important to know that all potential participants must be recommended before they can apply.  In order to apply, the candidate must first obtain a personal/ministry recommendation from someone who knows the candidate well.

Before proceeding in this process, the candidate should review the Participant Qualifications.

Process Overview

The Congress Participant Selection process begins with recommendations made on behalf of potential participants.  Recommendations of potential Congress participants are currently being solicited from trusted local and regional leaders around the world.

If you would like to recommend a potential participant, please use the online form to register as a Recommender and complete the online recommendation process.

After the completed recommendation is submitted and approved, the potential participant will receive an email Invitation to Apply.

The candidate’s completed application will be sent to the appropriate country committee for consideration.  The Country/Regional Selection Committees will review applications and then nominate potential Congress participants from their region.

These country/regional nominations will be submitted to an international Participant Selection Committee under the leadership of Bishop Hwa Yung of Malaysia.  This Committee will approve the final selection of the onsite Congress participants.

Completing an application does NOT guarantee an invitation to attend.  Applicants who are nominated by the country/regional committees and approved by the international Participant Selection Committee will be informed and invited sometime after August 2009.

Virtual Participation

In addition to onsite participants, Lausanne is making plans for leaders around the world to be involved in the Congress virtually through the Internet and other technology.  Details of this virtual participation will be made available later this year.

Please pray with us that God will bring together those of His choosing to discuss His agenda that will advance His Kingdom for our time.
