Intercession Working Group

The Intercession Working Group’s (IWG) purpose is to “Reawaken, encourage and equip the church to be in involved in world evangelization through Prayer in Evangelism." God summons us to pray in the pursuing of His purpose in evangelization of the world. So we seek to pray in God's purposes and pray towards God's purposes for World Evangelization.

The IWG produces the Prayer Bulletin for Lausanne’s monthly Connecting Point ENewsletter, and provides prayer teams for major Lausanne events. The group consists of a chairperson, a vice-chair, and regional chairs drawn from Lausanne’s 12 geographical divisions of the world.

“But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.”
Matthew 9:36-38

The harvest is truly plenteous. 1.6 billion people have not heard the Gospel once (that is 27% of the world population). In some parts church is struggling. There is lack of passion for God that has led to lack of compassion for the lost.

Our prayer as the intercessory team is that God will cleanse and touch His church again to fulfill the task of world evangelization. We invite you to join us, to partner with us in sitting at the feet of Jesus for the needs of this world today. Our need is for prayer and for the Spirit of God.

Archbishop Peter Jensen once said; “So it is in submission to his command to make disciples of all nations that we prayerfully do whatever it takes and go where ever it takes us, with renewed vision and compassion for the needs of this world.. We are undoubtedly looking for a great outpouring of prayer for unbelievers; This will only come from a fresh appreciation of how much Christ has loved each of us.

In response to the marvellous gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, please pray for the faithful “proclamation” of the word of God. Pray for the church, that we may be assured afresh of the love of God and filled with prayerful and sacrificial compassion for the lost; pray for unbelievers that they will come to know that same God through Christ.

There is not much point in praying for the nation to repent, if we will not change ourselves first. When we see an abundance of godliness, prayer and compassion, we will know that the Holy Spirit has visited us and that Jesus Christ and him crucified is being taught and believed amongst us. God himself challenges us to pray that He will unmistakably do his gospel work amongst us, so that there may continue to be a great evangelizational move forward in the years to come”.
