What Leaders are Saying About the Compendium

“For more than twenty-five years my thinking about world evangelization has been enriched through my involvement with the Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization.  It was my privilege to edit Making Christ Known, the compendium of major documents produced by the Lausanne movement from 1974 to 1989.  Now, it is a great joy to commend this new publication which contains all of the Lausanne Occasional Papers produced following the Lausanne 2004 Forum in Pattaya. Thailand.  I pray that this fresh thinking of a new generation of mission theologians and practitioners will enrich your understanding of the mission challenges that are before us.  Furthermore, I pray God will use them to inspire ‘the whole church to take the whole gospel to the whole world.’”

John R. W. Stott, honorary Chair of the Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization

“This compendium is a gold mine of theological reflection coupled with strategic action steps to advance the cause of world evangelization."

Leighton Ford, President, Leighton Ford Ministries

“It is my conviction that God is once again stirring the church through the Lausanne movement to inspire, direct, and propel the whole church towards fulfilling his Great Commission.  It is with this prayer that I commend this compendium of Lausanne Occasional Papers to you. May it serve to both inform and impassion you for world evangelization, for the cause of Christ, for his kingdom, and for his glory.”

Vonette Bright, Co-Founder, Campus Crusade for Christ

“This is a time when the church needs to be informed of what is happening in the world and equipped to proclaim Christ relevantly and effectively to the present generation.  This compendium does an admirable job in serving the church by performing these two functions.”

Ajith Fernando, National Director Youth for Christ, Sri Lanka

Now through November 30, 2005 the Compendium price will be $35 for the three volume set (when ordered in quantities of ten or more sets).  The regular price is $89.99 for the three volume set.  To pre-order the LOP Compendium, please email Diese E-Mail-Adresse ist gegen Spam-Bots geschützt, Sie müssen Javascript aktivieren, damit Sie es sehen können .

2006 LAUSANNE YOUNGER LEADERS GATHERING

humbleness, prayerfulness and like-mindedness – nurturing leadership through Philippians 2:2
By Larry Russell

September 2006 - 500 younger leaders will come together in Malaysia to seek the Lord’s direction. Preparing to take the mantle of leadership, these young leaders represent the next generation who will covenant to bring the whole gospel to the whole world. A Lausanne selection committee is inviting this small group of 500 young people, based on recommendations from Christian leaders worldwide. Men and women between the ages of 25 and 35, currently serving in churches and ministries from all corners of the globe will join together with the common goal of reaching the world for Christ.

What happens when younger leaders from 135 countries come together for a week? Bridging cultural, language, and diversity in ministry, it could very well be chaos unless the Holy Spirit creates a supernatural unity – a unity that has historically been the core and spirit of the Lausanne movement.

Many of us can point to a few events of our life that are “defining” moments – moments that the Holy Spirit uses to mold our thinking and passions for service to Him. Historically, the Lord has used Lausanne Gatherings over the years to create those moments. New ministries have been forged, partnerships between multiple Christian organizations have been established, and individual participants have sensed a renewing of call and refocus on ministry direction.

During the week long event in Malaysia participants will be:

  • Informed: To know what the state of the gospel is worldwide, what are the needs and who is doing what. This will happen in some systematic “briefings’ from world leaders. This is not just an educational focus but a way to see your own ministry as a part of a world direction. It also creates a perspective of how to partner with others to create a more coordinated effort in reaching the world.
  • Developed: Younger leaders want to grow spiritually and personally, so in turn they can develop other young leaders. Opportunities for spiritual development will happen in individual times of prayer and reflection, one-on-one times with a mentor, and the opportunity to be a part of a small group of participants from all parts of the globe. The participants will also worship together and be a part of Bible studies lead by respected teachers.
  • Inspired: By God’s ideas, by the challenges that lay before them, to finish the task. For this one week, in this one place, alongside brothers and sisters from 135 countries, the challenge of bringing the Gospel to a new generation will be the bolt of lightning that charges the group. This is not a static, quiet statement, but a bold prophetic message for believers in the 21st century.
  • Connected: To meet, network and partner with others from around the world, to pray, worship, and just be together with this unique group of like-minded young leaders. Relationships started during this week will extend for years to come. Partnerships and cooperations will be formed and new ministries will be launched.

As these 500 leaders return to their regions of the world after the gathering in Malaysia, they will help lead additional Younger Leaders Gatherings. Plans are being made to hold one-day gatherings called Global Advance in 50 cities worldwide. This will be co-run by participants and veteran Lausanne leaders to keep the momentum of younger leader development.

Additionally, within two years a more expanded weekend event will be held called Global Connection. This will be will be an opportunity for younger leader development in each of the 11 Lausanne regions of the world.

Lausanne continues to be a quiet force in helping to unite the whole church, bringing the whole gospel to the whole world. Younger Leaders Gatherings reflect one of the new directions in the 21st century to make this consistent mission happen.

VENEZUELAN SUPPORTERS ADDRESS NEW TRIBES MISSION EXPULSION

Responding to accusations against New Tribes Mission, Samuel Olson, president of the Venezuela’s top evangelical organization, The Evangelical Council of Venezuela, praised NTM's almost six decades of ministry in the country.

The council issued a statement defending the missionaries' work and denying the group has any ties with the U.S. government or is working for profit.

TAKING THE GREAT COMMISSION SERIOUSLY

The president of LifeWay Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) feels America has not truly utilized its enormous wealth to impact the world for Christ. And it may take some persecution, he says, to force the Church in America to take seriously its duty and its role in fulfilling the Great Commission.

PRAISE & PRAYER

By Glenda Weldon, Chair, Intercession Working Group, LCWE

As you come to him, the living Stone — rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him —  you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For in Scripture it says:  “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”  Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, “The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone,” and, “A stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall.” They stumble because they disobey the message — which is also what they were destined for.

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. 1 Peter 2:4-10

May we never take for granted the astounding and awesome privilege we have to be able, not only to enter into God’s Presence ourselves but to come before him on the behalf of others also! As we “declare his praises” and continue to pray and intercede on behalf of those who have not yet “received mercy”, may we see more and more people coming” into his wonderful light’

Lausanne Committee for World Evangelisation

  • Please keep Doug Birdsall in prayer as he leads the movement.
  • Please also pray for the Lord's leading with the Younger Leaders Gathering as applicants are being identified and logistical arrangements are being made.
  • Please also pray for the Christian leaders, including some of our very own Lausanne leaders, who are working on the frontlines of the relief effort for those affected by the earthquake in Pakistan, Hurricane Stan in Central America and Hurricane Katrina in the US.

Global AIDS Prayer Partnership

  • Pray for the governmental and NGO agencies on the frontlines of the battle against HIV/AIDS to be effective - Joshua 1:7
  • Pray for the HIV/AIDS research that is ongoing to finds ways to reverse and eradicate HIV/AIDS - Isaiah 41:17
  • Pray that government agencies will pursue God honoring solutions - not those which are expedient for their own needs - Matthew 6:33
  • Pray for the ready availability of anti-retroviral drugs to reduce suffering and prolong life - Jeremiah 8:21-22
  • Pray that resources would be available for the financial needs of countries hit hardest by AIDS - Ezekial 34:29

"I don't think the world yet realizes the carnage that is to come, I don't think the world yet realizes the full, incomparable horror of AIDS, and its inexorable spread around the planet." Stephen Lewis - The UN Secretary General's special envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa

"Seek the Lord while He may be found; call on Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the Lord, and He will have mercy on him, and to our God, for He will freely pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord."

UK
On 5 September Christian research published "The Future of the Church", Religious Trends No 5, which compared the world growth situation with the UK decline situation in detail.  If nothing changes in the UK church attendance is likely to be down to 4.4% by 2020 (two-thirds present figure) and to 2% by 2040.  The scary thing is that in 2040 two-thirds of those attending church will likely be over 65 years of age.

Please pray

  • God will use the report to help Christian leaders (of all levels of responsibility) to see how critical the situation ahead is and truly take it to heart so that vision building and strategic thinking can begin.

Oceania
Under the leadership of Dr Ross Clifford, the Lausanne Australia Committee has identified the 15 key Issues from the Forum that are relevant to the Church in Australia.  Please pray for those who are preparing summary reports of each of these Issues in preparation for Seminars/Workshops to be held around the country.

South Asia – Post-Tsunami

Please pray for:

  • Ophelia in her responsibility for children's ministry, ministry to the women and the Tsunami relief work in Sri Lanka. Ophelia with her team have built 20 houses. Further more they have undertaken to build a complete village consisting of 30 houses.
  • Sri Lanka. There is so much confusion in the political parties with the Presidential election coming in November. Pray that God will raise a new President and government chosen by Him.

Business as Mission

Please pray for the following national and Regional Consultations:

  • October - Central  Asia, China
  • November - Turkey
  • December - East Africa, Latin America

Lausanne Committee for Jewish Evangelism

  • Pray for the Messianic congregation in Arad in the southern part of Israel: In general messianic congregations in Israel can gather freely for service and harassment from anti-mission organizations and the orthodox Jewish community is not an ongoing phenomenon. However, the small congregation of Jewish believers in Jesus in Arad has been the target of a non-stop and very unpleasant demonstration for the last 18 months. Please pray that the authorities will protect their rights and not give in the pressure from the rabbis and the orthodox community.
  • Pray for follow-up after summer campaigns. Over the summer many of the Jewish mission organizations have organized out-reach campaigns and shared the gospel about the Jewish Messiah in Jewish neighbourhoods around the world. Pray for the follow-up work to be done after these campaigns that those reached will find a way to continue their interest in the Gospel and come to faith.

Unreached and Forgotten People Groups - Ethne 06

Please pray for:

  • God’s shield of protection around the entire leadership team, their families and spheres of influence, that there would be no accidents, injuries or illness to hinder the work of God.
  • God’s supply according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus, shaken together, pressed down and overflowing to more than meet every need, including the remaining finances needed for the production of the video DVD tool for prayer and strategic harvest initiatives as well as the remaining meeting costs.
  • No hindrances whatsoever in communication, whether within our families, co-workers or with God. Bind in Jesus Name any gossip, rumour, evil surmising and back biting. Loose pure words full of grace seasoned with salt to build up the hearer.
  • God to help them walk in love that covers a multitude of sins.
  • Divine favour and calling forth of exactly the partnerships, the information, the intercessors and the labourers needed to accomplish his purposes.
