NO TRANSLATION AVAILABLE The Lausanne Theology Working Group (TWG) serves the whole Lausanne Movement by ensuring that its passion for mission strategy and activism is grounded in careful theological reflection, and by challenging evangelical theology to have biblical effectiveness for holistic mission in the spirit of the Lausanne Covenant. The TWG has a core steering committee drawn from around the world and convenes small annual international consultations and several regional ones. Currently the TWG is working with the leadership of Lausanne in preparation for Lausanne III, in Cape Town 2010, by engaging in careful theological examination of each phrase in the Lausanne motto, “The Whole Church taking the Whole Gospel to the Whole World.”

Zimbabwe-born theologian David Wells says the TWG has accomplished
“some real breakthroughs on difficult issues.” The 1978 consultation on culture and the 1982 consultation on evangelism and social responsibility both produced widely influential Lausanne Occasional Papers (LOPs). TWG consultations in 1987 and 1989 produced the significant books God the Evangelist: How the Holy Spirit Works to Bring Men and Women to Faith, and Turning to God: Biblical Conversion in the Modern World. from a 2000 consultation in Nairobi on spiritual warfare, was edited by
team of scholars including Scott Moreau of Wheaton College. The TWG is chaired by Chris Wright, the international ministries director for John Stott’s Langham Partnership. |
