INTRODUCING MAREK WYRZYKOWSKI

By Tetsunao Yamamori, LCWE International Director

Marek Wyrzykowski and FamilyLast fall, I made a return trip to Poland. During my stay, I met with several evangelical leaders. One of those people was Mr. Marek Wyrzykowski, a man in his early 40’s who was highly recommended to me to fill the position of Lausanne International Deputy Director for Eastern Europe. Marek and I have been communicating during the months since my visit and I have become convinced that he will be the right person to work with LCWE. After much prayer, he has accepted the assignment. I am pleased to introduce him to you.

Marek was born in Lublin, a city in the eastern part of Poland. He says, “Like most Poles, I was raised in a Catholic family and the things of God were always important for me. I really wanted to spend eternity with God and I was constantly trying to earn my way to heaven.†He was never sure that what he did was enough and was uncertain that God would accept him. Consequently he says he “lived with a constant lack of peace†in his heart.

Marek pursued aircraft engineering at the Technical University of Warsaw, learning to build planes and helicopters. One day, two men came to his dormitory room and invited him to attend a Bible study. He continued to attend the meetings because he was interested in spiritual things. Eventually he committed his life to Christ. The two were from Campus Crusade for Christ and Marek became involved in its ministry. In 1985, he married Ala and both became active members of CCC. Marek took on a variety of assignments with CCC over the years until, in 2002, he was asked to give leadership to the whole ministry of CCC in Poland. He now cares for over 100 full-time Polish staff. He is now in the business of building people rather than planes and helicopters. He now has peace in his heart.

Marek has traveled extensively in Eastern Europe over the years and is well connected with leaders of other ministries. He and Ala have two children, son Michal and daughter Zuzia.

Please welcome our new International Deputy Director for Eastern Europe, Marek Wyrzykowski.

SIXTH ASIA LAUSANNE CONFERENCE ON EVANGELISM (ALCOE VI)

Everything is "GO" for the Sixth Asia Lausanne Conference on Evangelism (ALCOE VI). This will be held from 22-26 May 2006 near Metro Manila, Philippines. Compared with previous Asia Lausanne conferences, this one promises to be the best ever!

Institute for Campus Revival and Awakening Set for Yale University

An institute to help college campus ministry leaders understand revival and awakening biblically and historically – and to help bring about revival on their own campuses – has been scheduled for 21-28 June at Yale University.

“The Institute of Campus Revival and Awakening†(www.campusrevivalinstitute.com) is sponsored by Collegiate Impact, Campus Renewal Ministries and The Center for World Revival and Awakening.

“The institute will focus on spiritual breakthroughs of the past, as well as current issues, to prepare and equip participants for campus transformation in the present,†said Dave Warn, founder and director of Collegiate Impact.

The institute, limited to 70 participants, is designed for full-time leaders of denominational and parachurch campus ministries. Campus ministry leaders of Christian universities and colleges also are among likely attendees.

Topics to be explored include America’s four “Great Awakenings†and their implications for campus ministries today; the theological, historical and practical underpinnings of revival and awakening; campus revival in relation to intellectualism and anti-intellectual; postmodernism: help or hindrance; and more.

The institute is being held at Yale because many Ivy League schools were founded on Christian principles, with an expressed Christian mission, Warn said.

Evangelical Training Database

By Ian Benson, Coordinator, The Evangelical Training Database

Missionary Training Service
In partnership with Trainers of Pastors International Coalition (TOPIC) and coordinating with the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA), and member bodies of the International Commission for Evangelical Theological Education (ICETE), the Missionary Training Service (MTS) is working on a multi-lingual online database of training courses.

We hope that all evangelical theological colleges, missionary training organisations, Bible Colleges and non-formal training programmes will be able to input information about their courses online, and that these will then be immediately searchable world-wide in all major languages.

Geoff Tunnicliffe of the WEA has kindly said, "We certainly want to find ways of seamlessly integrating this into our WEA web presence."  Dr. Chris Wright, Chair of the Lausanne Theology Working Group and International Ministries Director of the Langham Partnership is also backing the project.

We value your prayers for this initiative, that it will enable all Christians to find out what training is available and so be better prepared for service.

Evangelical Training Database Details:

  • The database will be free for anyone to search and free to post information on courses, though we invite donations to support the project.
  • We are liaising with as many training associations and organizations as possible so that all can partner together in this project and avoid duplication.
  • The system will display only training institutions that have been validated for authenticity as an evangelical body.
  • Training institutions fill in the details of their courses directly onto the site and can update their entries as needed through a password.

Database Advantages:

  • By working together, organisations can save much time and effort and make information accessible for prospective trainees.
  • All courses will be promoted world-wide, through various portals.
  • Links are provided to training organizations' sites so that those searching can go directly to them.

Database Challenges:

  • The project depends on the active cooperation of other organisations, individual training institutions and associations to make it workable.
  • Access in multiple alphabets is also requiring special attention.

Database Timetable:

  • With God's help, we aim to have the training database fully functioning in English and Spanish by the end of April 2006. The official launch date is 1 May 2006.

This should include:

  • The input of data on training institutions and courses.
  • Full searching capabilities.

AFRICA MERCY Commissioned

This summer, the ship Anastasis, will be retired by Mercy Ships. Pioneered by Mercy Ships to "serve the nations" in the late 1970s, the Anastasis has sailed to more than 43 nations over the past 28 years. Joining her in retirement will be the Caribbean Mercy, which recently provided hurricane relief efforts on the U.S. Gulf Coast. Both ships are more than 50 years old. The newest Mercy Ship - Africa Mercy - was commissioned earlier this month, dedicated to “hope and healing.â€

Mercy Ships founder/president Don Stephens said, "Retiring these veteran ships and commissioning this new one will double our medical capacity and control costs."

Upon completion of her 274th port assignment (in Liberia), the Anastasis will meet the Africa Mercy in June to transfer expertise, crew and equipment so Mercy Ships can continue to bring life-changing surgeries, health care, and development to those in great need.

INTERNET EVANGELISM DAY UPDATE

By Tony Whittaker

Internet Evangelism DayThank you to everyone who has helped to share the vision of Internet Evangelism Day.

Our latest innovation is small corner diagonal banners - very easy to add to a website by copy/pasting a short piece of code. We are hoping that many sites will add these, even if their normal policy is not to have external links. Please use them, or even suggest to your favorite website that they use them.

A SUMMARY
The purpose of IE Day - and the potential of the Web for outreach - is summarized in the February Internet Evangelism Coalition newsletter.

YOUR PLANS
We realize that not all churches will wish to create a lengthy focus spot on 7 May. But you can easily insert a one-minute announcement during a service, and include a short paragraph about IE Day in your printed church announcements.

If you are considering a longer presentation, you can download:

  • a PowerPoint presentation which you can edit to your own requirements, with an accompanying set of commentary notes
  • two 5-minute video testimonies of young women who found God online
  • drama scripts
  • MP3 music

If you are hoping to feature IE Day in your church or group during May, please write to tell us of your plans. It is such an encouragement to us to know that our materials are being used: Cet e-mail est protégé contre les robots collecteurs de mails, votre navigateur doit accepter le Javascript pour le voir

TELLING OTHERS
Please continue to make IE Day known in any way you can. Thanks!

PUBLICIST NEEDED
If you have experience in Public Relations, IE Day wants to hear from you! We need a volunteer publicist.

PRAISE & PRAYER

By Glenda Weldon, Chair, Intercession Working Group, LCWE

Call to Prayer
The process that began at the 2004 Forum for World Evangelization with the challenge of a “fresh vision for the 21st Century†is now moving toward another milestone with the Younger Leaders Gathering  later this year. The planning and organisation are well underway. Young men and women from around the world are preparing to be participants.

  • Pray that God will move powerfully among all who gather.
  • Pray that all who attend will hear him speak into their hearts those same words that Jesus spoke to the disciples the evening of the first Easter Day - “As the Father sent me so send I you†- sent to “seek and save the lost.â€
  • Pray that all who attend will be filled afresh with his Holy Spirit as the disciples were that evening. Pray that they be empowered to live in holiness and to effectively share the Good News wherever they go.

May God continually renew in us all the passion to see his Kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven!

From Doug Birdsall, LCWE Executive Chair

  • Younger Leaders Gathering: As recommendations are coming from around the world, and as applications are being sent out, please pray for God to guide the entire recommendation and selection process of these younger leaders from around the world. Please pray for the Lord's wisdom, inspiration, and provision for this gathering. Please pray for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit on all who meet at the YLG.
  • Third Lausanne Congress: With the unanimous approval from the Lausanne Leadership and the assembly of an Advisory Committee, Lausanne III is being planned. Please pray for the Lord's Word, his wisdom, discernment and guidance as specific Congress logistics and leaders are being identified and selected.
  • International Director Search: Please pray for the search committee led by C.V. Mathew, that they would be able to see as the Lord sees. Please pray that the Lord will raise up, call, and clearly identify the next Lausanne International Director.

Eastern Europe
Pray for the flood situation in Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary. Many families have been displaced.

Western Europe
The German Evangelical Alliance, based in Bad Blankenburg in central Germany, is hosting a 740 hour Prayer Camp during the World Soccer Cup. The Prayer Coordinator writes, “Facing the coming Soccer World Cup in our country, German cities will be broadcasted daily on the screens through the whole world. Please pray for Germany that the kingdom of God will be visible again. You will be able to download actual prayer requests during 9 June to 9 July on our website (www.kickoff2006.org) or just write us an email before the time. You may also start praying right now.â€

Anglophone Africa
The Nigerian Evangelical Missions Association (NEMA) is forming a network of Nigerian missionaries working overseas under the leadership of Dr. John Abraham Godson.
Please pray:

  • That God will raise up the church in Africa to play a special role in reaching the unreached. NEMA believes that God wants them to create a platform where laborers from Africa can receive encouragement, support and insight. Already there are more than 5000 missionaries from Nigeria working in more than 50 nations of the world. The goal of NEMA is to raise up and send out at least 50,000 Nigerian missionaries.

East Asia
ALCOE VI (Asia Church Leaders Conference on Evangelism) will be held in the Philippines from 22-27 May.
Please pray for:

  • For the safety of the participants.
  • The fruitful result of the conference.
  • The unification of the Asia Church for the common goal of the Great Commission.

Lausanne Younger Leaders Gathering 2006 will be held in Malaysia, 24-30 September 2006.
Please pray for:

  • The selection of the young leaders who will attend.
  • The fundraising for the participants’ travel expenses.

2004 Forum Issue Group 24: Empowering Women and Men
Issue Group 24 Task Force is meeting in Minneapolis on 4 May to bring egalitarians and complementarians together for a time of discussion and reconciliation. Organizers of the meeting say, “Our desire is to see God help us bridge the barrier between those who hold differing interpretations of the biblical role of women in ministry. Our prayer is that this healing process will spread throughout the Body of Christ.â€

Children at Risk
Please pray for the ministry of Casa Viva, an initiative of Viva Network in Costa Rica.  This ministry has made it possible for “Leonora†to go home through a partnership between government, local churches and Casa Viva professionals (social workers and psychologists). This initiative allows very needy children to find a home with a Christian family. The Costa Rican government needs more and better places to place children taken into their care. Casa Viva mobilizes churches around the vision of family-based foster care and then trains and prepares families who want to receive a child into their home. Casa Viva ensures that the family and child are supported with the professional and psychological care that they need. The team also works with the biological family to evaluate the possibility of restoring the child to them. Pray for the family who is caring for Leonora until a foster family can be found. The Costa Rican government had taken her into care because her parents were unable to care for her and referred her to Casa Viva to find a foster family.

INDIA
Please pray for our fellow believers in India, for protection, courage, comfort, wisdom and strength from the Lord.  There is an increase of violence and persecution against Christians throughout the country and especially in the North.
