Some 4000 evangelical leaders from more than 200 countries will convene in Cape Town, South Africa, in October 2010 for a global congress exploring issues and opportunities facing the the global body of Christ Thousands more people will participate in the Congress through The Lausanne Global Conversation and at registered GlobaLink sites around the world To ensure that the issues presented in Cape Town are part of a genuine global discussion, the Lausanne Movement is inviting participation and dialogue on the issues on a variety of fronts, including through these unique gatherings, simply called — The Conversation. These gatherings, a part of the broader Lausanne Global Conversation, are being held in partnership with Christianity Today International and several local churches and colleges The Lausanne Movement recognizes that credible Christian witness must embrace the issues of the day and that many of the global topics like HIV/AIDS, the environment, poverty, religious conflict and cultural practices are remarkably complex and intertwined. As we look at each issue, conversation together becomes vitally important. The subject of bearing witness to Christ in today’s world is not about denying the complexity and reality of our world; rather it is about offering the uniqueness of Christ as the epicenter of life from which we’re able to address the circumstances of life. Today, the Christian message competes in a “global bazaar” of messages about God, the Bible, and the meaning of life. With growing intensity, conversation is taking place across the media spectrum in what can rightly be described as a global marketplace of meaning. In the same manner media help fuel globalization, trade, commerce and the development of multimedia messages that are also cultural and religious. This is why The Conversation is so important. As we participate in the Conversation about these issues together, we are better able to grasp the issues, learn from one another, pray together and seek solutions that will bring honor and glory to the Lord. You are a vital part of the Conversation – your gifts, talents, passion and expertise are important to seeking ways to more effective share Christ in word and deed. Consider participating in one of the upcoming Conversation Gatherings to share your voice. Compassion International, Crossway Books, and David C. Cook are committed to helping facilitate dialogue and strategy on missions and evangelization in the global body of Christ through The Lausanne Movement. Their support of the Conversation Gatherings as part of the broader Lausanne Global Conversation has been invaluable.
