A Message from Leiton E. Chinn

International Student Ministry Special Interest Committee

The number of International Students, representing the future world leadership, continues to grow each year.  The increase of students "studying abroad" is on the rise between continents and within regions, with more countries outside of Europe and North America, receiving significant numbers of students than ever before.  The global Church has a strategic opportunity to welcome and extend God's hospitality and love to the world's future leaders that God brings to its communities and campuses.  Many international students are more open and receptive to God's "good news" while they are abroad.  The LCWE recognizes International Student Ministry as a critical component for world evangelization and included it as an Issue Group for the 2004 Forum, and subsequently has created an ISM Special Interest Committee.

The Lausanne Occasional Paper #55 (Diaspora and International Students - pdf format) provides the biblical basis, strategic nature and opportunities, global examples, campus and church-based models, practical ministry ideas, suggestions for getting started, and resources for ministry among students from other countries.
