Lausanne World Pulse

With more than six billion people in the world representing thousands of cultures and countless language groups, taking the gospel of Jesus Christ to the ends of the earth can seem a daunting task. However, the gospel must continue to "go global," extending to every corner of the earth. November's LausanneWorldPulse.com focuses on globalization and the gospel and how these two issues can go hand in hand.

Here is a sample of the articles you will find this month:

COMIBAM III

COMIBAMCOMIBAM III, the III Ibero-American Missions Congress (La Iglesia Ibero Americana de camino al III Congreso Misionero Iberoamericano), was held in Spain 13-17 November.

1966 World Congress on Evangelism

1966 World Congress on EvangelismThe 1966 World Congress on Evangelism, held in West Berlin, Germany, was an important event in the history of 20th century Christianity.  At this meeting Protestant Evangelical Christians (theologians, evangelists, church leaders) from around the world met, most for the first time.  They began to build relationships and exchange views that led to much closer cooperation and future conferences, such as the 1974 International Congress on World Evangelization (Lausanne I).

Although the Congress was sponsored by two American organizations - the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Christianity Today magazine - and was planned and financial largely by Americans, the papers at the conference gave many indications of the explosive growth of the church in Africa, Asia and Latin America and the shifting center of gravity of the church from the Western to nonwestern cultures.

The Billy Graham Center Archives is making available at its website dozens of audio recordings, texts of papers, and photographs from the meeting. All of these documents are available at: http://www.wheaton.edu/bgc/archives/berlin66.htm

One interesting aspect of the Congress was the attendance of the Waorani tribesmen Yaeti Kimo and Gikita Komi of Ecuador, along with missionary Rachael Saint.  The Waoranis had been involved in so-called Auca Incident ten years earlier, when five American missionaries trying to plant a church among the Waorani had been murdered.  Both Kimo and Komi had become Christians since then and were at the conference to share their faith.  The website includes recordings their presentation to the Congress and of their press conference.

Other speakers for whom there are recordings and/or texts at the web site include:

Billy Graham, John Stott, Francis Schaeffer, Corrie tenBoom and many others.

World Evangelical Alliance and the Micah Network

WEAThe World Evangelical Alliance welcomed the Micah Network as its newest Global Partner, making official the strong relationship that began two years ago with the joint launch of the Micah Challenge initiative.

“We are very happy to announce that Micah Network has joined WEA as its newest Global Partner.” said Geoff Tunnicliffe, the International Director for the World Evangelical Alliance.  “It is our hope this new partnership will facilitate greater coordination and integration of relief and development work in our network of three million churches around the world."

Global Partner membership is given to international organizations that specialize in a field that contribute to the WEA’s mission and objectives.  There are currently seven other Global Partners serving the WEA constituency.

Micah Network is a group of nearly 300 Christian relief, development and justice organizations that work together to meet the needs of the poor and oppressed, proclaim the mission of the church, and advocate Biblical values to leaders and decision makers around the world.

Steve Bradbury, chair of the Micah Network, expressed hopes that both organizations would greatly benefit from the partnership.

“We thank you for your invitation to be a global partner of WEA and have pleasure in accepting it,” said Bradbury.  “It is my heartfelt prayer that God will bless the Micah Network/WEA relationship, and use it to enhance our capacities to serve him.”

“We already have one very significant joint initiative, the Micah Challenge,” he said, referring to the joint campaign to mobilize Christians against poverty. “We look forward to praying and working with you to grow its impact at global, regional and national levels.”

The World Evangelical Alliance is made up of 127 national evangelical alliances located in 7 regions and 104 associate member organizations.

Praise & Prayer

By Sarah Plummer, Intercessory Working Group Chair

Pray it forward.
Please ask the Lord of the harvest to answer the prayers of his people, for the sake of His Kingdom today.

  • To ask God to initiate prayer in and for many areas of the world; especially Burma, Nepal & India at this time
  • To ask God to facilitate the desire in new Godly servant leaders to minister both locally and cross culturally;
  • To ask God to spur on more research into the location of Churches and their health; and capacity to plant
  • To ask God to continue to work in resources like the Global status of the gospel which provides a fresh new perspective on the mission of  the Church in its endeavor to fulfill the Great Commission;
  • To ask God to stir in each individual Christian's heart a desire to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

In our Bible Study Group this week, my husband and I were sharing the passage in Philippians 1: 12-30. "Joy in the worst of times" was the title of the study. We contemplated what that meant for so many of our brothers and sisters in the persecuted churches. How we honor Christ in difficult situations. We are humbled by the example of so many in the Lausanne family. And may I encourage you today in your circumstances with verse 27 "Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ".
