2004 Forum Application Deadline Extended
The application process for involvement in the Lausanne 2004 Forum for World Evangelization in Thailand has been extended until August 31st, 2003. Dr. David Claydon, International Director for LCWE, says after adding a number of new topics to the list of Issue Groups for the Forum, leaders extended the deadline to allow others who might be interested in those Issues Groups to apply for involvement. Dr. Claydon says they’ve also developed several Special Interest Topics within a number of Issue Groups to enable additional topics to be pursued. In order to participate in one of these Special Interest Topics, participants should apply to be involved in the Issue Group in which the topic is to be discussed and then indicate their interest in the topic later to the Convenor. (The name of the individual Issue Group is listed in parentheses behind the Special Interest Topic.) Some of these special interest topics are:
The 2004 Forum for World Evangelization will be only the fourth time in the past thirty years that the Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization has called such a comprehensive global gathering. Leaders also say that never before has such a meeting sought to develop such specific action plans to combat the challenges facing the Church. According to ASSIST News Service a prayer event held June 28 in London drew hundreds of people to pray for the oppressed people of North Korea. Some 300 people attended the event at Westminster Chapel, London, England and were encouraged to pray in an opening address by Joel Edwards, General Director of the Evangelical Alliance UK. Nine evangelists in Luis Palau's Next Generation Alliance(R) (NGA) recently returned from a 10-day, 11-city mission of nearly 100 events in Albania; an effort the General Director of the Albanian Evangelical Alliance (VUSH) is calling the "biggest in Albania," one that "stimulated us to take responsibility and [has] given us confidence that we can carry on with creative evangelism in the future." " Creative evangelism" is a necessary component in a country that, in 1967, became the world's first officially atheistic state. When the ban on religion was lifted in 1991, Albania quickly became reverted to its Muslim past. In Tirana, Albania's capital of 700,000, Christians account for only 5,000 of that number. The Albanian Evangelical Alliance, an association of more than 100 churches, invited NGA to help them tell their country about Jesus Christ. In June 2003, nine partner evangelists of the Luis Palau Association spoke at events throughout Albania. More than 4,000 people made first-time commitments or rededications to Jesus Christ. Bos, Special Correspondent, ASSIST News Service The United Bible Society and the International Bible Society will distribute what they call "the first ever" Children's Bible in the Kurdish language in Northern Iraq despite concern over Muslim extremism in the region, ASSIST News Service (ANS) has learned. According to a recent report from the BBC, people in poor countries could soon have a new and cheap way to get hold of the wealth of information on the Internet: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/3065063.stm What impact this will have for evangelism on the Internet remains to be seen. William R. “Bill” Bright, founder of Campus Crusade for Christ, the world’s largest Christian ministry, died July 19, 2003 from complications related to pulmonary fibrosis. He was 81. From Glenda Weldon, LCWE Intercession Working Group The Apostle Paul declares in Colossians 1:13-23: “ For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. And He is the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything He might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through His blood, shed on the cross. Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now He has reconciled you by Christ¹s physical body through death to present you holy in His sight, without blemish and free from accusation if you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul have become a servant.” Our prayer is that through 2004 Forum on World Evangelization, the Church around the world will receive a “New Vision, a New Heart and a Renewed Call” to the task of World Evangelization so that we will, like Paul, be able to say the Gospel “has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven!” PRAISE GOD:
