The Third Lausanne Congress on World
Evangelization will take place in Cape Town, South Africa, in October. It is
being held in collaboration with the World Evangelical Alliance.
Please join evangelicals on every continent
in praying for this unique event, which we trust in God’s goodness will be a
watershed for the Church. For more information, visit www.capetown2010.com. Cape Town 2010
(CT2010) will gather 4,000 evangelical leaders, thinkers and influencers from
200 countries, with many more thousands taking part through the Cape Town
GlobaLink remote sites. Congress discussions on the issues are being shaped
online by the Lausanne Global Conversation, www.lausanne.org/conversation
March
Prayer
Please pray with us for the finalizing of
the programme.
Each day the Congress will open with an
exposition from Ephesians. The expositors are:
- Ajith Fernando (Director of Youth for Christ, Sri Lanka)
- Calisto Odede (Associate Pastor of Nairobi Pentecostal Church,
Kenya)
- John Piper (Senior Pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Minneapolis, USA)
- Vaughan Roberts (Rector of St Ebbe’s Church, Oxford, United Kingdom)
- Ruth Padilla DeBorst (General Secretary of the Latin American
Theological Fellowship, Costa Rica)
- Ramez Atallah (Director of the Bible Society of Egypt), with
his wife Rebecca.
Through plenary and elective sessions, the
Congress will engage with some of the toughest issues impacting world
evangelization. Pray for the Programme Committee as they finalize the large
number of subject matter experts from around the world. And please pray for the
speakers as they prepare to facilitate discussion between all areas of the
global evangelical church in these critical times.
The speakers and presenters have undertaken
a huge task in researching topics on a worldwide scale, and engaging with the
Lausanne Global Conversation. In addition to the online discussion at www.lausanne.org/conversation,
this Conversation is extending through radio programs across major parts of the
world, and in magazine articles on every continent. Christ has given gifts to
his Church to share. As Christians across the world share their insights into
Scripture and mission, perhaps learned through trials and suffering, please
pray that the whole Church will be encouraged and better equipped to share
Christ in word and deed.
Lausanne anticipates wide interest in the
Congress from the press and media. This month we look at the first round of
applications for onsite and offsite media credentialling. Please pray for those
handling these decisions so the Congress can reach into countries effectively
through radio, the press and television, as well as the internet.
April Prayer
Billy
Graham, the American evangelist who founded The Lausanne Movement,
coined the phrase ‘the spirit of Lausanne’: exemplified by
prayer, study, partnership and hope – practised in, we trust, an
attitude of humility. Please pray for the Congress preparations to be
conducted in this spirit. The Congress team is spread around the
world and most meetings are held via internet conferencing. Please
pray for protection against misunderstandings or anything else which
can undermine our serving together, ‘maintaining the unity of the
Spirit in the bond of peace’.
In
May the online Lausanne Global Conversation will move from being
English-language only to becoming multilingual. This is a significant
step forward in enabling the Body of Christ to talk together. Please
pray for Andrew Brumme as he manages this process, and for many
Christians around the world to participate in the Conversation (www.lausanne.org/conversation).
This has potential to be a useful tool for iron sharpening iron
across the world. It will also enable Christians to share with many
others their gifts of experience and of spiritual insight, and it
will be of value to speakers as they prepare for the Congress
discussions. We would love the Lausanne Global Conversation to serve
the Church for years beyond the Congress.
