Extend the Reach of Your Financial Gift and Strengthen Significant Mission Initiatives

Editor’s note: Lausanne received $458,380 in gifts and commitments toward fulfilling the year-end USD $500,000 matching gift. We are so grateful for the the prayerful support from so many around the world! If you missed the 31 December deadline for the match, your gifts are still a tremendous help.

It’s my joy to share some wonderful news with you! An anonymous, generous friend has offered to match financial gifts given by 31 December 2014 up to USD $500,000. This includes all gifts given for specific projects listed on our website as well as any gift given to be used where most needed. (This offer does not extend to gifts for individual Lausanne staff members.)

This match applies to both one-time gifts and recurring gifts. If you begin a recurring gift this month, everything you give in December and pledge for 2015 will be doubled by the match.

Would you join me in lifting up a prayer of thanks to God for this friend? With this matching gift, we are seeking to raise one million dollars for several significant mission initiatives, including:

  • The 2016 Lausanne Younger Leaders Gathering (YLG). This gathering will be a major focus for the Movement the next two years, which is expected to bring together 1,000 emerging leaders ages 25 to 35 from all over the world.Your support will also help launch a ten-year period of mentoring and mobilizing these leaders as well as intentional engagement beyond the participants of the gathering to connect an entire generation of emerging influencers passionately committed to God’s mission.
  • Majority world influencers in leadership positions in the Lausanne Movement. One fundamental hurdle to strategic leadership and participation by majority world influencers in global Christian movements is finances. Too often, major global consultations and executive positions are dominated by leaders from organizations with the financial means to support their travel and ministry. We do not want this to be the case for Lausanne. We want to support leaders who clearly hear the voices of the evangelical church in their region, and for this Movement to be led by influencers who will represent each world region well, with wisdom, discernment, and compassion.
  • Lausanne Global Analysis (LGA), our bimonthly publication which delivers strategic information and insight from an international network of evangelical analysts to equip influencers for global mission. The LGA provides missional implications of current events and regional and global trends such as the growth of the church in China and the emigration of Christians from the Middle East. It also provides insight into missional challenges and opportunities, such as ministry in cities and the prosperity gospel. In a world where news and information is constantly available, but where a globally sensitive, trusted evangelical voice is often unavailable, the LGA helps fill the gap.

Would you prayerfully consider giving to the Lausanne Movement?

Your gift at this time will help the Lausanne Movement move forward on these and other initiatives which can impact global mission for decades to come. I believe that the infusion of younger leaders into partnerships within Lausanne’s issue and regional networks and strengthening the full engagement of leaders from the majority world will foster unforeseen breakthroughs in some of the most difficult areas facing the church.

And until the end of this month, you have the added benefit that your gift will be doubled, which will also double the impact. Perhaps you could give $40 or some multiple of that in your own currency in honor of the 40th anniversary of the Lausanne Movement, which was celebrated this year. Or perhaps God will lead you or your organization or church to give $400 or even more.

Don’t forget that you must give or begin your recurring gift before midnight on 31 December to have your gift doubled. You may give online up to midnight that day.
