Martha Mwendafilumba

Catalyst for Health for All Nations

Zambia

Martha Mwendafilumba grew up in Zambia as the firstborn in a family of nine children. Martha attended a Catholic boarding school and came to know Jesus personally through the Scripture Union in 1977. She went on to study nursing, and in 1980 she joined InterVarsity’s Nurses Christian Fellowship. She has been serving as a medical nurse in her country ever since.

Martha Mwendafilumba has worked for the government of Zambia, then in the NGO sector with CARE International, Global Network for Women and Children’s Health, World Vision, and lately the Centre for Infections and Disease Research Zambia. At her current position, Martha is working on a project linked to the University of North Carolina aiming to improve outcomes of pre-term labor and births. As of July 2015, Martha Mwendafilumba has been serving as co-catalyst for the Lausanne Health for All Nations Network.

Martha interacts regularly with the Zambian government in technical committees and participates in developing guidelines, policies, and training manuals for health workers. She is also a board member and the Africa regional president of Nurses Christian Fellowship International (NCFI).

Martha has a great passion to serve among nurses and sees her profession as a calling. She also leads a ministry group of women at her local church. Martha is a widow after 25 years of marriage, has 3 daughters and 1 granddaughter.
