Issue Group 19: Media and Technology

The uses and abuses in spreading the gospel

The expected outcomes of the work done on this issue were:

  1. Outline the range of opportunities offered by IT and indicate pitfalls and how follow up can be effectively undertaken.
  2. Creative programming in the media
  3. Suggest ways to counter the damaging effects of tele-evangelism

There was a separate stream on Discipling Visual Learners and the expected outcome of the work done on this issue were:

(a) A challenge to the global church to seriously consider the importance of reaching those who need to hear the gospel in a non-written form.

(b) Provide guidelines for churches and mission agencies as to ways in which they can communicate and how stories can provide an excellent basis for communicating.

(c) Draw attention to the global church about those agencies who are already involved in creative ways of reaching visual learners as well as suggesting ways in which local churches with limited resources can reach these people
