Catalyst for Business as Mission
Since meeting Christ at age 16, Joao’s driving passion has been to glorify God by starting and leading anything that helps fulfill the Great Commission. At age 20, he co-founded Crossover Communications International (a global church planting movement, aka CCI) and today serves as president of CCI-Brasil and vice president of CCI’s International Leadership Team. In addition to having served as a pastor in Brussels, Belgium, for five years, and having taught and trained on leadership, evangelism, missions and BAM in over 50 countries, he has helped catalyze the planting of new churches and new Kingdom Companies for and among unreached peoples, and serves variously as board member, partner or managing director of several Kingdom companies.
João (aka John) has served as contributor and editorial team member for the Lausanne Occasional Paper on Business as Mission, the Brazilian Bible Society’s award-winning Missionary Study Bible, and the Portuguese-language edition of Winter and Hawthorne’s Perspectives on the World Christian Movement, as well as contributor to the Evangelical Missiological Society’s book called Business as Mission: From Impoverished to Empowered.
João teaches and conducts research at several institutions in Brazil and the U.S. and holds degrees in sociology (B.A.), applied theology (M.A.), intercultural studies (D.Int.St.) and religious studies (Ph.D.). He has been involved with the Lausanne Movement in BAM since 2003 and, more recently, on the Educators Task Force of the Global Diaspora Network. He and his wife Sophia and their two teenage children live in Curitiba, Brazil.
